Oreo Truffle
For some reason, I thought that I should attempt to make these awesome Oreo truffles that I saw on Bakerella’s site. Here’s what I learned from the process:
- Using Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s instead of Oreos are a great substitute so you don’t have as many weird chemical ingredients, plus they add a nice minty kick.
- It’s kind of hard to find a chocolate to use for dipping that isn’t a chemically-laden product. I finally found some plain white chocolate full of natural sounding ingredients. Not that it was health food, not by a long shot But at least they didn’t sound like a lab experiment.
- I really, really, really suck at dipping chocolates.
- It doesn’t matter how ugly they are, the husband will devour them and think they are delicious.
And they were mighty tasty! Guess I just need to learn and practice dipping techniques!
Here’s the recipe from Bakerella:
Oreo Truffles
1 package oreo cookies (divided… use cookie including the cream center)
1 8oz. package cream cheese (softened)
white chocolate bark
1. Finely crush 7 cookies in a food processor or place them in a ziploc bag and crush into a fine consistency. Reserve for later.
2. Crush remaining cookies and stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together.
3. Roll the mixture into 1″ balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.
4. Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry. You can sprinkle the tops with the 7 crushed cookies for decoration. (I usually eat mine before they make it to this stage.)
5. Once dry, refrigerate and enjoy!
Makes about 36 truffles.

Hi! I live in New Zealand and make these truffles with a type of chocolate sandwich biscuit we get here - they’re called Tim Tams. I’ve discovered that the dipping becomes easier if you freeze (or at least chill) the truffles first, since if they’re cold the chocolate sets really quickly. I generally stick a kebab stick in the bottom for dipping to make them perfectly round, but the flaw with that is you get a hole in the bottom. Yours look pretty scrummy, though!
